We recently returned from North Sulawesi, Indonesia (thanks to Eco Divers), where I was invited to be the “photographer in residence” for a week. Unfortunately mother nature had other plans for us. During the week we only had a one small window of sun to shoot some snorkeling images for a new Cressi catalog. The water quality was affected by the constant rain, but we salvaged a shot or two. This is normally the dry season – chalk it up to climate change.
It was beautiful morning light peeking through the holes in the small island of Boo in Raja Ampat Indonesia. I could have shot here all day!
This image is from 2005. I “rediscovered it” this past week while searching my images library for close focus wide angle shots for a magazine article. I didn’t submit this image because it is a little soft, but I do think it’s kind of cool.
Today’s image is from a very quick test shoot in a new pool for an upcoming assignment. The pool is clean, the model was cheap, and the vibe was right.
It’s not often that such prolific coral grows so close to the surface. I was awestruck when I visualized an image of the trees above the water’s surface peering down at the magical trees beneath. Metaphorical reflections of mimicry.
This image took a little planning, but it all came together and is one of my favorite images from Triton Bay, a very remote part of western Papua, Indonesia.
Having dived many healthy and colorful reefs around the world, I was blown away at the quality in Triton Bay. More to follow…
My underwater Geisha series was featured as a main 6 page spread in the largest dive magazine in Europe this month – the German magazine Unterwasser. This particular dive magazine always has outstanding photography, and although I don’t understand the words, I enjoy browsing through it regularly because of the imagery. I hope this month that the readers of Unterwasser enjoy my conceptual underwater photography.
Newspapers and magzines will begin publishing some of my Sardine Run images this week. So far I saw it in UK based Telegraph, The Sun and Daily Mail . I have released some images that were previously not posted publicly yet, including a full body image of a Brydes Whale and some feeding dolphin and shark images.
We all have chains of some sort holding us back in life. The beautiful underwater goddess looks to the light as she plans her emergence from the chains that bind her…
